While writing code for computer programs, websites, and other digital applications requires at least a little training, it’s probably far less than most people think.

You don’t necessarily need an expensive four-year bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field to get a job as a coder. Most of what you need to know can be learned through community college classes or even online, both of which can be achieved in a fraction of the time and expense.

Writing code is also not as difficult as many people think. It doesn’t require an extensive background in mathematics, writing skills, or even science. All it requires is logic and common sense.

Qualified people who know how to write code are needed for practically every type of business today because most companies have websites, apps, and other code-based digital portals.

And unlike many blue-collar jobs, people who write code aren’t likely to be replaced by automation anytime soon.

There’s also a potential big payday for learning to write code. The national average salary for IT jobs is about $81,000, which is more than double the national average for all jobs.

Plus, in the next decade, the demand for coding jobs is expected to increase by 12 percent, far faster than most other occupations.

Blue-collar workers who are concerned about their future should consider enrolling in code-writing courses now so they can get the training they need to transition into a better paying job before it’s too late.
